Preparing for Your Upcoming Move

Preparing for Your Upcoming Move

in Featured, Moving & Storage

Our previous article covered the importance of hiring and scheduling your full service movers and packers as soon as you know what day you want to move. We also discussed why you should inventory your belongings. Today, we will look at more tips to help you prepare for your upcoming move.

DONATE, SELL, OR THROW AWAY ITEMS

Now is the time to get rid of items you no longer want, need, or plan to use. There is no reason to pay your full service movers and packers to handle items you don’t need. Once you decide what you want to get rid of, offer any items you wish to family and/or friends, then plan a garage sale or donate them to a local non-profit, and take items that are no longer usable to the dump.

MAKE CHECKLISTS

Don’t underestimate the power of a good checklist! Making a checklist of what you need to do before, during, and after your move can help you stay organized. You may decide to have separate checklists for each family member and also for each different activity. For instance, you may have a checklist to follow once your movers and packers arrive. You may have another checklist for your first night in your new home. And, you could have yet another checklist for unpacking your belongings.

Our next article will cover more tips from our full service movers and packers.

Preparing Your Family for a Military Move

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Military Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers

If you are in the military, you know you will be faced with having to move duty stations every few years. 3 Guys Moving thanks you for your service and is proud to serve our military!  We are a full service moving company that has also been designated as one of the approved storage facilities for the U.S. military. Our next series of articles will provide some tips to help prepare your family for a military move.

BE OPEN AND HONEST

Moving can be extremely emotional for the family, especially if they have developed good friendships and have ties to the area. It is important to be open and honest about where you are moving to and/or could be moving to for your next duty assignment. Giving your family time to begin processing the move in their minds can help make the transition easier. This is especially true for children who will need to prepare themselves for leaving a familiar environment with their friends and school. Spouses also need time to emotionally prepare, tie up loose ends, say goodbye to friends, and give their current job notice.

RESEARCH THE AREA

If possible, try to research the area and provide your family with some highlights and features that may make them excited to start a new adventure.  What types of unique activities are in the area? Are you going to be close to any theme parks or other fun spots? Do the schools in the area have interesting programs or other highlights that make them especially attractive? Uncovering a few “gems” about the area can help generate excitement about your upcoming move.

Our next article will cover more tips on preparing your family for a military move.

More On College Moves

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

Moving your kids to and from college can be quite stressful. However, having a reputable and qualified moving and storage company can ease much of the anxiety that goes along with a college move. We are continuing our series of articles outlining some tips to help you plan a college move. Our previous articles covered the importance of finding out the assigned move-in and move-out dates, hiring an experienced moving and storage company, planning what items to bring, and doing a walkthrough before and after your move. Today, we will conclude our series with a few more thoughts to consider.

MOVING DAY!

Moving day is finally here!  Be sure to have a clear area for your movers and packers to work when they arrive.  Keep smaller children and pets out of the way to avoid accidental injury. Have the list of items you plan to bring handy and check items off the list as your full service movers pack them in the moving truck. Once your movers and packers have everything secured in the truck, they will proceed to your dorm, apartment, etc. If you are moving out, then the full service movers from your moving and storage company can either bring the items to the location you designate (i.e., home, another on-campus or off-campus domicile, etc.) or to a secure storage facility for safe keeping.

HAVE AN “UNPACKING” PLAN

The full service movers from your moving and storage company will bring your belongings and furniture to the area(s) you designate within your dorm, apartment, etc. Movers and packers can assemble furniture and unpack your items for you. If you wish to do this yourself, then it is a good idea to have a plan. Think about the essentials and make sure those are unpacked and/or assembled first. Examples of essential items include medications, clothing, toiletries, computer, tablet, etc. Planning your unpacking strategy helps keep things organized and can alleviate a lot of stress.

3 Guys Moving is a preferred moving and storage company with experience in handling all types of moves. Our long distance and local movers stand ready to assist you and provide you with excellent service and care. If you have an upcoming move, we invite you to experience the 3 Guys Moving difference. Strategies for Your Move-In

Strategies for Your Move-In

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers

This is the final article in our series designed to help you develop a move-in strategy. Our previous article covered tips to help your move-in go smooth including cleaning your home before your move-in date, packing essentials and keeping them in a designated area that is easy to access, activating utilities so they are on and ready when you move in, taking a final pass at purging items you don’t need before your movers and packers arrive, making an inventory of all of the items your full service movers will be moving, and prioritizing the order of the boxes to unpack.  Here are our final two suggestions.

ASK FOR HELP

A sure way to minimize the stress of unpacking is to ask for help. Don’t be shy about inviting family, friends, and neighbors over for an unpacking party.  Provide them with some food and refreshments and make a fun event out of it. You would be surprised how much can get done with a few extra hands. Another option is to consider an add-on service of having your movers and packers unpack everything for you.

ASSIGN TASKS

Whether you enlist outsiders or plan to keep the unpacking within your immediate family, it is a good practice to get organized and assign tasks. The person who cooks the most may be the best person to assign to the kitchen. A friend of your son or daughter may be assigned to help them unpack their bedroom. Coordinating who does what will make the process easier and faster.

Not every full service moving company has the best interests of their customers at the forefront of their minds. At 3 Guys Moving, taking care of our customers is more than an obligation, it’s part of our company culture. Our long distance and local movers and packers take pride in ensuring your move is as smooth and stress free as possible. We deliver quality services and stand behind our work. We even offer piano moving, and our piano movers are among some of the best in the business. If you are planning an upcoming move, our full service movers and packers would welcome the opportunity to serve you. Give your friends at 3 Guys Moving a call today.

Helping Your Move-In Go Smooth

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

We are continuing our discussion on tips and strategies to help your move-in go smooth. Our previous article covered the importance of cleaning your new home before you move in, packing essentials and setting them aside from the rest of the belongings your movers and packers will handle, turning on the utilities before you move, and decluttering one last time before your full service movers arrive. Today, we will look at some additional strategies to consider.

MAKE AN INVENTORY

It is a good practice to make an inventory of all of the items you plan to move.  You can either do this the old fashioned way by using paper and a pen, or there are numerous apps you can download to help you organize your thoughts and develop your lists.  Having an detailed inventory of what is in each room to refer to will help greatly as you go to unpack your belongings.

PRIORITIZE EACH BOX

When your full service movers and packers arrive at your new home, they will place the furniture/boxes in the areas you designate.  All of the kitchen boxes will be placed in the kitchen, the living room furniture and boxes in the living room, etc.  Once your full service movers have everything moved in, you will need to prioritize which room(s) you want to unpack first. Many people set up their bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen areas first, but it is really up to you. Once you determine the order you will unpack, you will then need to prioritize each box.  So, for your bedroom, it may be a good idea to unpack your clothes box before tackling the photos, candles, and knick knacks that you don’t necessarily need in the short term.

Our next article will include more move-in strategies.

Your Move-in Strategy

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

We are continuing our series of articles discussing some aspects to consider as you develop your move-in strategy. Our previous article covered the importance of cleaning your new home before you move in. We also discussed packing essentials and setting them aside so they are readily available to you when you get to your new home.  This article will discuss more move-in tips as recommended by our full service movers and packers.

TURN ON UTILITIES

Strive to have as many utilities as you can turned on when you move in to your new home. This will make your transition more comfortable and give you items to check off your long “to do” list.  Utilities to consider turning on prior to your move include electricity, water, and internet.

DECLUTTER ONE FINAL TIME

We have discussed in previous articles the importance of purging items you no longer use or need before you move. Although you may have made an initial attempt at this, it is a good idea to go through one more time before your full service movers and packers arrive and determine if there is anything else you can sell, donate, give away, or throw away.

Our next article will cover more items to include in your move-in strategy.

Properly Preparing and Packing Your Belongings for Storage

Properly Preparing and Packing Your Belongings for Storage

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Military Moves, Moving & Storage, Warehouse Space

If you plan to utilize temporary storage during your next move, listen up. Our full service movers and packers have some important tips to share. Our previous articles covered how you should not put items you may need to quickly access into storage, the importance of using quality packing supplies, making sure you wash all linens and clothing you plan to store, and how you should not place perishables in storage. Here are two more tips to help you properly prepare and pack your belongings for storage.

MAKE SURE ITEMS ARE DRY

Our full service movers and packers will tell you to make sure you do not pack any items that are damp or wet. This is especially true if they are going to be placed in storage. Dampness promotes moisture buildup which can cause mold, mildew, and foul odors.

PROTECT FRAGILE ITEMS

Fragile items should be protected whether you are making a door-to-door move or placing the items in storage. Our full service movers and packers suggest using plenty of peanuts, bubble wrap, and acid-free paper when packing items that are fragile. You can also use linens to pad your moving boxes. Make sure the boxes are packed tightly to discourage the contents from rubbing up against one another and/or shifting in transit.

3 Guys Moving is proud to be one of the country’s most respected moving companies. Our full service movers and packers are dedicated to easing the stress of our customers and ensuring their satisfaction. And, because we are a moving and storage company, we can offer you safe, secure, climate-controlled storage should you need it.  In fact, our 23,000 square foot warehouse is an approved military storage facility. Do you have an upcoming residential or commercial move?  If so, our long distance and local movers are here to help. Give your friends at 3 Guys Moving a call today!

Preparing Items for Storage

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage, Warehouse Space

If you find yourself in need of a moving and storage company, this series of articles is for you.  Our last article covered some tips on packing your belongings for storage, including the importance of not storing any items you may need to quickly access and why you need to invest in quality packing supplies. Today, we will discuss two more tips to consider when preparing items for storage.

WASH LINENS AND CLOTHING

It is extremely important that you wash any linens and clothing that you plan to place in storage. Dirt, grease, and even oil from your skin can degrade and discolor fabrics. Not to mention the fact that dirty clothes and linens often have foul odors.

DO NOT PACK PERISHABLES

Perishable items are not ideal for storage since they can expire, spoil, and even attract bugs and rodents. Pack them and take them with you to wherever you are staying in the interim. Our movers and packers suggest that if you do this, you should unpack these items as soon as possible once you reach the location of your interim move.

Our next article will cover more strategies to help ensure you properly prepare and pack your belongings for storage.

3 Guys Moving is a trusted moving and storage company that has been providing customers with quality long distance and local movers for more than three decades. Packing Items for Storage

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Military Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers, Warehouse Space

There are times when you may need to engage a moving and storage company to hold your belongings until you are ready to move into your new home. This happens quite often with military moves. Outside of the military, some people hire a moving and storage company when they are faced with having to make an interim move. This can occur when you close on your existing home before you close on your new home. It can also happen when you are in the process of building a new home that is not move-in ready and you have to either stay with a friend or family member or rent a place on a month-to-month basis.

If you are faced with having to hire a moving and storage company to temporarily store your belongings, there are some steps you should take to ensure they are properly prepared and packed for storage. We will explore this in our next series of articles. Let’s get started:

DON’T STORE ITEMS YOU MAY NEED TO ACCESS

If you have specific items that you may need to access before you make your final move, it is recommended that you do not place them in storage. This can include anything from important paperwork and kids’ toys to tools and electronics.  Bottom line, if you think you will need it, do not place it in storage.

USE QUALITY PACKING SUPPLIES

Quality packing supplies make all the difference, especially if you plan to place items in storage. Follow the example of our movers and packers who use dependable supplies such as durable boxes, heavy duty tape, bubble wrap, popcorn, and anything else that may be needed to protect the integrity of the contents being packed.

Our next article will cover more tips on how to prepare your belongings for storage.

We are also an approved military storage facility. Whatever you need, our long distance and local movers have you covered. We even offer piano moving and have employed some of the best piano movers in the business. Give your friends at 3 Guys Moving a call to learn more today.

Easing the Stress of a Long Distance Move

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Military Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers

We are continuing our series of articles focusing on ways you can help ease the stress of a long distance move. Our previous articles covered the importance of consolidating your belongings, hiring an experienced moving and storage company, preparing for your movers and packers to arrive, and making sure your kids and pets are ready for what lies ahead. Today, we will cover a few more tips to help your long distance move go smooth.

PACK EVERYONE A BAG

Since there could be some time in between when you and your belongings arrive to your new home, be sure to pack everyone a bag with at least a few days’ worth of clothes, toiletries, medication, and any other essentials.  Be sure to do this for your pets, too. You may also wish to keep valuables and important paperwork in your possession as well.

TURN ON THE UTILITIES

Having the utilities active when you arrive to your new home can make everything much less stressful. Moving into a home without electricity or running water presents its own set of challenges. Be sure to contact utility companies a few weeks ahead of time and let them know your move-in date. Be sure to provide payment for any deposits as well.

3 Guys Moving is a qualified, experienced moving and storage company with both long distance and local movers who can help take the stress out of your next move. Our movers and packers handle all types of moves, including residential, commercial, military, college, and more. If you have larger items such as a piano, then we can help with that as well.  We have piano moving services, and our piano movers are among the best in the business. Remember, not all moving companies have your best interests in mind. We have been a trusted moving and storage company for more than three decades. We welcome the opportunity to work with you. Give us a call to learn more today.
