Challenges to Be Aware of As You Plan Your Move

Challenges to Be Aware of As You Plan Your Move

in Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

(part two)

We are continuing our series on challenges homeowners face when moving.  Our previous article covered large or bulky furniture, having more items to move than expected and weather. This article covers three more potential obstacles to be aware of when planning your move.

NEW HOME NOT READY

If you close on your current home before your new home is ready to move in to, you may be faced with an interim move.  If this happens, don’t fret.  3 Guys Moving is a trusted moving and storage company that can help you navigate this process.  We also have additional information and articles on our website about planning an interim move.

TIME CONSTRAINTS

While it may seem like you have plenty of time before your move, time does tend to fly.  It is a best practice to set a schedule for your move and stick to it.  One of our previous articles covered the importance of getting organized before the movers and packers arrive. Consider incorporating this into your schedule. It is also a good practice to develop a checklist for your move. Once you have a target date for your move, call a full service moving company such as 3 Guys Moving to schedule your movers and packers.

UNRELIABLE FRIENDS AND/OR FAMILY

If you are planning a do-it-yourself (DIY) move, you will likely call upon your family and friends for assistance. This can be a risky move if any of them back out last minute.  As a full service moving company, our movers and packers often come to the “rescue” and take over when a DIY move does not go as planned.

3 Guys Moving is a full service moving company dedicated to providing excellent service to our valued customers.  Our movers and packers treat your belongings with care and work hard to ease your mind during this stressful time.  Whether you are in need of local movers or are planning a long distance move, we can help.   And, because we are a moving and storage company, we can even securely store your belongings in our 23,000 square foot climate controlled facility. Give your friends at 3 Guys Moving a call today!

Obstacles Homeowners Face When Moving

in Moving & Storage, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Piano Movers

As a trusted moving and storage company, we feel it is our duty to provide customers and potential customers with resources and information to help ease the stress of the moving process. After being in business for more than three decades, we have seen it all!  Unlike many fly-by-night moving companies, we treat our customers like family and pride ourselves on repeat customers who keep coming back and referring friends who either need local movers or are seeking assistance with a long distance move.

Our next series of articles will cover some of the most common obstacles homeowners face when moving. Let’s take a look:

LARGE OR BULKY FURNITURE

Large or bulky furniture can cause challenges on both sides of the move. The good news is that our movers and packers have a lot of experience with this and will evaluate what needs to be done to safely move these items. Speaking of large and bulky, did you know that piano moving is one of our specialties?  In fact, 3 Guys Moving is one of the area’s preferred piano movers.

MORE ITEMS TO MOVE THAN EXPECTED

While it may at first seem like you do not have a lot of stuff to pack, once you begin to pull items out of closets you may find that you have much more than expected. No job is too large for our full service movers to handle. However, if you wish to save some time and money, consider either donating or throwing away items you no longer wish to keep before your movers and packers arrive.

WEATHER

Weather can put a damper on any parade.  However, there is no need to fret.  Take a deep breath and trust that your movers and packers will do everything possible to keep your belongings and home free from damage.  If rain is expected, consider covering the entryway floors with moving blankets.  If it’s going to be extremely hot, make sure you have enough water on hand to stay hydrated.

Our next article will cover more challenges to be aware of as you plan your move.

3 Guys Moving is a full service moving and storage company with more than three decades of experience.  Both our local movers and long distance movers take pride in what they do and treat your belongings like their own. Since we are a moving and storage company, we have the facilities to store your items if needed.  Don’t trust fly-by-night moving companies that are here today and gone tomorrow.  We invite you to experience the 3 Guys Moving difference. Tips to Help Ease the Stress of Moving

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

P

Moving from one place to another is often time consuming and stressful.  The first question people often ask themselves is whether or not they should consider moving truck rental and move themselves, or, hire a full service moving company to handle the logistics for them.  The decision is up to you, but remember, time is money.  3 Guys Moving is a reliable, full service moving company with experienced movers and packers who can help ease the burden of moving.  Whether you are handling it yourself, or hiring a professional moving and packing company, here are some tips to help make your move less stressful.

GET ORGANIZED

Getting organized can prevent much stress.  Consider taking an inventory of all of the items you plan to take with you. Make a list of all your belongings and categorize items (i.e. kitchen, Molly’s room, etc.). Then, plan a garage sale and/or trip to a donation center to get rid of items you do not wish to take with you. Doing this will make it easier, especially when the movers and packers arrive.

START PACKING EARLY

Time flies so the earlier you start packing the less stressed you will be later.  Even if you plan to hire a packing and moving company, there will likely be some items you wish to keep with you. Start by packing the items you plan to move yourself. Then, make sure you have everything else ready for when the movers and packers arrive.

USE QUALITY MOVING SUPPLIES

If you hire a packing and moving company, they will have plenty of quality moving supplies on hand when they arrive to pack your belongings. However, if you plan to handle the packing yourself, we suggest purchasing quality moving supplies such as sturdy boxes, strapping tape, bubble wrap, packing wrap, etc.  Our professionals carefully and strategically place items in our moving trucks all the time. Breakage, when it occurs, is usually a result of customers not properly packing boxes and other items for transport.

Our next article will cover three more tips to help ease the stress of moving. 3 Guys Moving is a full service moving company based in the Greater Tampa Bay area.  Our movers and packers handle all types of local and long distance moves.  When hiring a packing and moving company, experience matters.  Our team of experts can ease your mind and help you achieve a stress-free move. Give us a call to learn more today!

Planning for an Interim Move

in Moving & Storage, Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Military Moves, Warehouse Space

An ideal situation is to be able to move from one location to another. However, there are times when an interim move is required.  For instance, perhaps you have sold and closed on your current home but your new construction home will not be ready to move into for another month. Or, maybe you are in the military and plan to live on base until you find a permanent home.  Your friends at 3 Guys Moving are experts in interim moves.  We are a full service moving company that not only has experienced movers and packers, but we also offer safe and secure storage options for your household goods.

Our next series of articles will cover some ideas on how to best plan for an interim move.

ORGANIZE AND GET RID OF ITEMS YOU DO NOT NEED

Moving to a new place is the perfect time to organize your belongings and get rid of items you no longer use.  While our movers and packers are happy to handle anything you have, now is the perfect time to purge the items you no longer need.

DETERMINE WHAT ITEMS YOU MUST BE ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY ACCESS

When making an interim move, a moving and storage company will store your belongings for you.  You should determine what you need immediate access to (i.e. clothes, personal items, etc.) and take them with you to your interim location.  Our movers and packers will securely store everything else and deliver it to your new home once you are ready to move in.

If you are planning either a local or long distance move, we can help.  We are a preferred and trusted moving and storage company located in the Tampa Bay area.  Our 23,000 sq. ft. climate controlled warehouse is an approved storage facility for the U.S. military and is equipped to safely and securely store all of your important items.  Give us a call to learn more about how our moving and storage company can help you with your next move!

What Not to Ask Professional Movers to Move

in Local Moves, Moving & Storage

Relying on a professional mover truly makes your life easier. Not only do we take on the heavy lifting, literally, but we offer professional packing, short notice moving, and storage solutions just to name a few of our services. That said, there are some items that you should not rely on your professional mover to take on or that you should not move at all.

Food

It is definitely a good idea to keep some snacks on hand for you and your family during moving day, but when it comes to perishables like produce, dairy, or meat it is best to consume that prior to moving day. If you have a lot of excess food items, this does not mean you have to throw things away. Contact your local shelter or food pantry to learn what can be donated.

Valuables

You definitely do not want to leave valuable items behind, but it is always better to err on the safe side when it comes to moving items like money, jewelry, and family heirlooms. With the exception of large furniture, these are some of the items that you should move in your own vehicle to avoid any mishap.

Hazardous Chemicals/Materials

This could include anything that is toxic or flammable such as fuel, chemicals, or propane tanks. Firearms or weapons of any sort are also items you should transport yourself as opposed to the moving company.

Our crew of local movers in Tampa is dedicated to ensuring that all of the items we pack and transport make their way safely from Point A to Point B. Feel free to contact us to discuss the details of your move by visiting 3GuysMoving.com.

Simple Moving Tips for What to Pack and When to Pack It

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

Approach the process of packing with a plan and you will avoid a lot of chaos. As one of the preferred local movers Tampa, Florida has to offer, packing and unpacking services are a part of our repertoire. Keep in mind the following as you plan your move!

What to Pack First
It might seem obvious, but non-essentials are the place to start. What falls into this category? Anything that is stored in the attic is a great place to begin. Items that are out of season like holiday decorations or items you do not use on a regular basis. These could also include camping materials, surplus items like extra towels and linens, and specialty cooking equipment or fine china.

What to Pack Last
As you approach moving day, there are certain items you will refrain from packing until a couple of days before you move and others that you won’t back until the day of your move. Bathroom supplies fall into this category because you will want to be able to access the essentials like toilet paper, first aid kit, as well as medicine and daily toiletries. Bedding is another factor. While extra linens can be packed early on, you will wait until your final day to pack up your bedding and your bed will most likely be moved on this day as well.

What not to Pack
This does not imply that certain items will be left behind, but instead make sure you keep certain things easily available and at-the-ready.

  • Prescription Medications
  • Snacks
  • Treats for your Pets
  • Comfort Item for Children
  • Change of Clothes
  • Cell Charger

We are happy to take on local and long-distance moves. Visit 3GuysMoving.com to discover more about our approach to moving!

Benefits of Hiring a Professional to Pack

in Featured, Local Moves, Moving & Storage

Moving involves an abundance of detail and can often cause stress. Professional movers are there to alleviate that stress by taking some key components off your plate. Of all the local movers Tampa has to offer, 3 Guys Moving takes great pride in providing above-and-beyond service. This extends to our packing and unpacking capabilities. Explore and understand the benefits of taking advantage of professional packing services for your move.

Training & Experience

Individuals with this role have been carefully trained to meet high industry standards for packing. They often make the task of packing look much easier than it actually is, which is kind of the point. Their skills and experience enable them to get the job done efficiently so you avoid that feeling of being overwhelmed by the task.

Speed & Efficiency

A professional does not have any emotional attachment to the belongings in your home. They take a streamlined and systematic approach to guarantee that they place items swiftly, albeit carefully, in their boxes without over or under filling. It will be necessary to be clear on what is being packed to make sure they know ahead of time.

Protection & Care

Before commencing the packing process, your home – including the floors – will be protected. Then all of the materials will be brought in for packing such as boxes, tape, and paper. As a part of the aforementioned training, a good packer will wrap and protect items and pack them into boxes in a deliberate manner.

Houseplant on top of Moving Boxes | 3GuysMoving.com

Can you Move with Houseplants?

in Featured, Local Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers

If you are an avid houseplant hobbyist, then snake plants, fiddle leaf figs, and pothos are more than just greenery to you. You probably consider them to be a part of the family so the thought of parting with them might be difficult.

When you are about to move, there are many options for the houseplants you have been caring for:

  • Give them to a Neighbor
  • Offer them to Nearby Friends
  • Sell them at a Yard Sale
  • Donate to a Local Hospital or Library

If you insist on taking your beloved plants with you, there are a few items you should be aware of. The team at 3 Guys Moving cannot transport plants across state lines. There are stringent inspections and requirements involved, so please contact the state’s agriculture department for more information.

For in-state moves, we encourage our customers to take on the task themselves and leave the other items like pianos, television sets, and appliances to us. By moving your plants yourself you have greater control over environmental conditions such as light, temperature, and watering. If all of your plants are in heavy ceramic pots, just be sure to pack your vehicle accordingly to avoid the mess of a pot breaking.

Out of all the moving companies St. Petersburg, FL, offers, you can rely on 3 Guys Moving to provide the best advice when it comes to transporting specific items, so do not hesitate to contact us. Visit 3GuysMoving.com to explore more about our approach or to get a quote on your move!

Moving with Pets

in Moving & Storage, Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves

When you are making a move, the entire family is affected including those furry or feathered (or scaled) family members). When moving with a pet, remember that this type of change has the potential to cause stress. That can be alleviated if the right measures are taken to ensure the process goes smoothly. This post focuses more so on dogs and cats, but regardless of what type of pet you have in your family, you will want to make sure they are comfortable and prepared.

Make sure you have all the essentials at the ready. While your pet does not need to access all of their toys during the move and a giant bag of kibble doesn’t need to make the trip, it is important to pack a bag that keeps everything easily accessible. Items to include:

  • Ziploc Bag of Food
  • Treats
  • 1 Comfort Object – Toy or Blanket
  • Grooming Tools
  • Kitty Litter or Doggy Bags

This is not only necessary for the initial trip if it is a longer distance move, but also plan for it to last the first couple days of the unpacking process.

Establish their space as soon as possible. If you make sure there is a designated area in the home to house their belongings. Depending on your pet and their personality, it can take some time for them to adjust to a new environment. Surround them with familiar items including fabrics that might contain recognizable smells.

Contact your vet to let them know of the move. Even if you are keeping the same vet, it is necessary to update their information. If your pet has a microchip you will definitely want to have the current address up-to-date. If they do not have a microchip, taking care of this prior to moving is highly recommended. If the worst were to happen and your pet runs off during the moving process, a microchip increases your chances of bringing them back home.

Ultimately, you know your pet best and are in the position to ensure their moving experience is as easy on them as possible. When searching for local moving companies in the Tampa area, remember that the team at 3 Guys considers every aspect of your move. Visit 3GuysMoving.com for a free estimate!

3 Tips for Selling Furniture Online

in Featured, Local Moves, Moving & Storage

When planning a move, sometimes there are large furniture items you decide to part with. When you do not need to take advantage of our furniture movers in St. Petersburg, Fl, for certain items, one option is to sell your furniture online. Facebook Marketplace, Swip Swap, Craigslist, and other avenues are excellent ways of easily parting with your furniture in your local area.

It is very important to consider safety when you are selling or buying items using one of these popular online market places. Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind.

  1. Meet in a Public Place – Whether you are the seller or the buyer, meeting in a convenient public place during the day is not only easier but also smart. If the buyer insists on coming to your home under circumstances that make you uncomfortable, that is a sign to consider finding a different option. When selling, you are not required to have anyone pick up at your home. You can offer to meet in a convenient spot where you feel comfortable.
  2. Have Someone With You – Depending on the size of the item you are selling or purchasing, this might be necessary regardless. Either way, utilizing the buddy system is always smart because there is safety in numbers.
  3. Trust Your Gut – Human intuition is a powerful tool and there are very often natural warning signs we can pick up on that tell us when a situation is harmful or fishy in some way. If there is any doubt about the trustworthiness or safety of a buyer or seller, then trust your gut.

These might seem like common sense, but with the prevalence of the internet it never hurts to have a reminder to stay safe! When you need professional movers or storage solutions in the Tampa Area, you can always count on us. Head to 3GuysMoving.com to learn more!
