Tips for Long Distance Moves

Tips for Long Distance Moves

in Featured, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

We are continuing our series of articles offering some valuable long distance moving tips as recommended by our experienced team of full service movers.  Our previous article covered the importance of consolidating the items you plan to move and hiring a reputable moving and storage company. Today, we will look at two more tips to consider.

PREPARE FOR THE MOVERS AND PACKERS TO ARRIVE

You will need to take some time to prepare for your movers and packers to arrive. Hopefully you have been in the process of consolidating and purging items you no longer need.  You will also need to make sure the areas the movers and packers need to access are clear and ready for them to utilize. You should also place items you plan to take with you in a separate area so they your movers and packers do not accidently pack and load them onto the truck.  Make sure you turn off and unplug all electronics.  And try to find a place for your children and pets that is out of the way to help avoid accidents.

PREPARE YOUR KIDS AND PETS

Speaking of children and pets, it is also a good idea to help prepare them for your long distance move. Talk with children so they understand what is happening. Make sure you have filled your pets’ prescriptions and have enough treats, food, etc. for the trip.  If you are driving and traveling with pets and plan to stay in a hotel, be sure to identify ones along the way that are pet friendly.

Our next article will cover more long distance moving tips recommended by our movers and packers.

Pre-Moving Donation Tips: Food Banks

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers

As you purge items in preparation for your upcoming move, you may come across food items. Although movers and packers will gladly pack and transport them, you may decide you wish to start fresh and not take them with you. If this is the case, then you can either give them to family and friends or donate them to a local food bank. Let’s take a look at some of the items food banks will accept and the ones they will not.

ITEMS THEY WILL ACCEPT

Food banks welcome canned items including soup, food, sauces, fruits, fish, meats, and veggies and more. They also need pasta, rice, beans, cereals, oats, juice, cookies, crackers, condiments, candy, and peanut butter. Nutritious food and items that are high in protein are especially desirable.

ITEMS TO TOSS

Items that are out of date cannot be accepted by most food banks.  Any food that has been opened should also be tossed. Food banks also shy away from cans or packages that do not have a label. Fresh items that require refrigeration are also questionable since they may not be able to determine how well or long the item had previously been refrigerated.

Pre-Moving Donation Tips: Thrift Stores

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

As you prepare for your upcoming move, you will likely come across items you either want to get rid of or no longer need. Purging should be complete before your movers and packers arrive. The options you have when purging items include selling them yourself (i.e., garage sale, online ads, etc.), bringing them to a consignment shop, throwing them away, or donating them to a thrift store. Donating them can offer tax benefits and provide a quick, easy way to get rid of them. However, not all items are ideal for thrift stores. Let’s take a closer look:

ITEMS THRIFT STORES WELCOME

Most items that are in good condition and operate properly are welcomed by thrift stores. This includes, but is not limited to, gently used clothing (except socks, underwear, bras, and bathing suits), furniture, home décor, tools, toys, books, school supplies, games, linens, purses, sporting goods, belts, hats, ties, luggage, small appliances, artwork, pots and pans, electronics, shoes, coats, and more. While thrift stores will often refrain from accepting used socks, underwear, bras, and bathing suits, they definitely welcome these items if they are new with the tag. So, if you have any items that still have the tag on them that you do not plan to wear, then donating them to a thrift store is an option.

ITEMS BETTER SUITED FOR THE TRASH

When evaluating items, a good rule of thumb is that if you would throw it away, then the thrift store will do the same. Items that are better suited for the trash include broken items, chipped dishes, stained/damaged furniture, and clothes that are ripped, worn, or stained.  Many thrift stores will also refuse mattresses, automotive batteries, tires, weapons, large appliances, and chemicals.

Are you planning an upcoming move? If so, our blog has numerous articles designed to help you better prepare. As a reputable full service moving company for more than three decades, your friends at 3 Guys Moving understand the process of moving and the stress that it can bring. Our long distance and local movers and packers are sensitive to your needs and go above and beyond to help ensure your move goes smooth. If you are seeking a full service moving company, look no further. 3 Guys Moving is here for you. Give us a call to connect with our full service movers today.

Managing Your Stress During a Move

Managing Your Stress During a Move

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

Our movers and packers have seen it all and are committed to doing everything in their power to make your move as stress-free as possible. We are continuing our series of articles discussing some ways you can manage your stress during a move. Our previous article discussed the importance of beginning to prepare your move several months in advance and also designating a “get away” space that is free of clutter. Today, we will explore more ways to ease the stress of moving.

ASK FOR HELP

Don’t be afraid to ask family and friends for help. Even when you hire a moving and storage company to handle the packing and moving, there is still a lot of prep work before the move. And, let’s not forget all of the unpacking after the move. You may also need help with picking up children from school, cleaning, organizing, and other tasks.

DON’T SLACK ON SELF-CARE

The tasks involved with moving can be time consuming, however, don’t neglect your self-care routine. Take time to read, go for a massage, take a walk on the beach, listen to music, enjoy a cocktail on your porch. Whatever makes you happy, make sure you carve out some time to do it as this can help keep your stress at a manageable level.

Hiring a full service moving company with experience can make all the difference. 3 Guys Moving is one of the few moving companies that was founded more than 30 years ago and is still in business today. Our long distance and local movers pride themselves on providing excellent and efficient moving services.  Don’t settle for just any full service moving company. Longevity does matter.  Give your friends at 3 Guys Moving a call today.

Managing Your Moving Stress

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers

Moving is stressful. Our movers and packers have helped hundreds of stressed out homeowners get through their moves. Our next series of articles will discuss some ways to manage and reduce stress.

GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME

It is wise to begin prepping your move at least a few months in advance.  Even if your home is not sold and you don’t have another one lined up, you can still begin the planning process. Make an inventory of items you wish to keep, interview moving companies, have a garage sale, etc. These are all tasks you can do well ahead of time so that when you are ready to move, you won’t be working on such a tight and stressful timeline.

DESIGNATE A “GET AWAY” SPACE

Clutter can drive a person nuts, and at various points during your move, you will likely be faced with clutter. It is important to designate an area of your home as a “get away” space where you and your family can still maintain some semblance of peace and normalcy. This can be either an indoor space like a spare bedroom or an outdoor area such as a porch or patio.  Florida rooms are also great spaces to utilize for this purpose.

Our next article will provide more tips on how to manage your stress during your move.

When it comes to moving companies, not all full service movers are equal. 3 Guys Moving is a moving and storage company with more than three decades of experience. We even handle piano moving. In fact, our piano movers are among the best in the business. Whether you need long distance or local movers, you can count on us to do everything we can to help your move go smooth. Options For an Interim Move

Options For an Interim Move

in Corporate Moves, Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

Our long distance and local movers and packers have worked with customers in various types of situations. One we see often is when an individual, couple, or family finds themselves in a position where they have not found a permanent home and need to make an interim move. We are continuing our series highlighting options to consider in the event you need to make an interim move.  Our previous article covered short term vacation rentals and homes, condos, and apartments with month-to-month leases.  Today, we will look at two more options to explore when faced with an interim move.

CRASH WITH FAMILY OR FRIENDS

If you have family or friends who are willing to let you crash at their place for cheap or free, you could have a roof over your head and save some cash at the same time.  You probably won’t be able to bring your furniture, but your moving and storage company can store that for you until your permanent home is ready.

EXTENDED STAY HOTEL

Extended stay hotels are usually the option of choice for interim corporate moves.  Some companies will even pay for an extended stay hotel when a person is re-locating for work.

3 Guys Moving is proud to be a preferred moving and storage company handling both residential and corporate moves. We are one of the few moving companies who have proudly been in business for more than three decades.  Our team of long distance and local movers and packers have the experience to get the job done in an expedient and efficient manner. Don’t trust just any moving and storage company with your next move. Give your friends at 3 Guys Moving a call today.

Where to Stay When You Need to Make an Interim Move

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Military Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers, Warehouse Space

There are many reasons why someone may need to make an interim move. It is more common than you think. In fact, our movers and packers see it all the time. Sometimes people are in the process of building a new home that will not be ready by the time they need to be out of their current home. Or, perhaps they have been re-located for work and have not yet found a permanent place to call home.  Whatever the reason, an interim move means you need to find a place to stay for a short period of time. Our next series of articles will discuss some ideas to explore should you be faced with needing to make an interim move. Let’s take a look:

SHORT TERM VACATION RENTAL

There are numerous short term vacation rental options available through online marketplaces such as VRBO and Airbnb. Since they are fully furnished, you don’t have to worry about moving your belongings out of your home and into an interim residence. Your moving and storage company can simply store them for you until you are ready to move to your permanent location.

MONTH-TO-MONTH LEASE

There are some rental homes, condos, and apartments that offer month-to-month leases. You may pay a little more, but you won’t be bound to a long-term contract. This is ideal for people who prefer not to put their belongings in storage because there are usually both furnished and unfurnished options available.

Our next article will discuss more options to consider for an interim move.

3 Guys Moving is a moving and storage company with a 23,000 square foot climate-controlled warehouse that is fully equipped to meet your interim storage needs.  In fact, we are an approved storage facility for the US military.  Our long distance and local movers and packers take pride in what they do and have the experience to do it well. We even handle piano moving and employ some of the most knowledgeable piano movers in the business. If you need a moving and storage company you can trust, then give 3 Guys Moving a call today.

Moving Your Home Office

Moving Your Home Office

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers

Moving to a new home sometimes also means relocating to a new workspace as the shift towards working from home appears to be becoming more permanent. Our long distance and local movers and packers have seen a sharp increase in the number of people who work from a home office. We are continuing our series of articles discussing some tips for moving your home office.  Our previous article covered the importance of scheduling your home move at a time that does not conflict with your work and throwing away, selling, or donating items you no longer need before your movers and packers arrive.  Today, we will provide you with more helpful tips to consider.

BACKUP COMPUTERS AND DOCUMENTS

It is extremely important to backup all your important data and documents before your movers and packers arrive. This will help protect your data should something unforeseen happen to your computer or files.  Important documents can be scanned so there is an electronic backup of them.  As far as computer data, it is a best practice to make both a local backup on an external hard drive and a cloud-based backup.

SCHEDULE INTERNET SERVICE

If you work from home, your home office will likely be one of the first areas you will want to set up. You will need to schedule a time for your intended provider to come out and set up your internet service.  Not having access to the internet is a deal breaker when you work from home.

3 Guys Moving is a trusted full service moving company with more than 30 years of experience. Our long distance and local movers and packers handle all types of commercial and residential moves.  We even offer piano moving services.  In fact, our piano movers are among the best in the business!  If you have an upcoming move, it’s important to choose a full service moving company with a good reputation and exemplary customer service.  Give your friends at 3 Guys Moving a call today.

Determining What To Take With You

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage, Piano Movers

We are continuing or series on what items you should consider taking with you when you move. In any event, you should make a separate pile of items that you are and are not taking with you before your moving company arrives.  You do not want the movers and packers to accidentally pack something you plan to throw away, sell or donate. Our previous article covered some tips to help you determine what to take with you including determining which items are still functional and deciding whether or not you still have a use for it.  Here are two more aspects to consider.

IS IT STILL IN STYLE?

Decide whether or not the items you wish to keep are still in style. If not, ask yourself if you are comfortable with them anyway. If the answer is, “yes” and you plan to utilize them, then keep them. However, if you never plan to wear that high school jean jacket that you have been hanging on to for decades, then it may be time to get rid of it.

IS MOVING IT PRACTICAL?

It is always important to consider the practicality of moving some items.  Sometimes moving them is not of any benefit and would result in issues and expense. Maybe you still have your sleeper sofa from 1990 that is bulky, heavy, requires three people to carry, and takes up a good amount of room in the moving truck. Unless you are attached to this sofa or have a defined reason for keeping it, now may be the time to let it go.

Our next article will cover more tips to help you determine whether you should keep an item for your movers and packers to handle or if it would be more advantageous to sell, donate, or trash it.

3 Guys Moving is a trusted packing and moving company that has been in business for more than three decades.  Our long distance and local movers are dedicated to their work and treat your belongings like their own. We are one of the few moving companies with experienced piano movers.  When it comes to hiring a packing and moving company, don’t settle for less than the best. Easing the Stress of Your Out-Of-State Move

in Featured, Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

We are continuing our series on tips to help make your out-of-state move easier. Our previous article covered the importance of planning a visit to your intended destination, exploring employment opportunities, and learning about schooling options before you commit to making the move.  Today, we will look at three more tips to consider.

DOWNSIZE

Transporting your belongings is among one of the biggest stressors of moving.  If you are able to downsize before your movers and packers arrive, it will not only help ease the stress of moving but will also help you purge items you don’t need, allowing you to have a fresh new start.

INVENTORY

Make an inventory of the items you plan to take with you when you move. This will not only help keep you organized, but your full service moving company will be better able to provide you with an accurate quote and best service possible if they have a clear idea of what and how much they will be moving.

HIRE A FULL SERVICE MOVING COMPANY

Planning and executing an out of state move can be challenging. Hiring a full service moving company to handle everything for you will help ease the stress and burdens of moving yourself, as we have discussed in previous articles. Unfortunately, there are many moving companies that are not reputable. It is important to hire a full service moving company such as 3 Guys Moving that has a proven track record and has been in business for a long time.

Your friends at 3 Guys Moving have both long distance and local movers available to plan and execute your re-location. Our movers and packers are dedicated to ensuring all of our valued customers are satisfied with the services we provide.  Not all moving companies are equal.  We have been in business for more than three decades and our track record speaks for itself.  If you need a moving and storage company to handle either your long distance or local move, we stand ready to help. Give us a call today!
