Easing the Stress of Long Distance Moves

Easing the Stress of Long Distance Moves

in Moving & Storage, Featured, Long Distance Moves

We are continuing our series of articles discussing ways to help ease the stress of long distance moves. Our previous articles covered the fact that you should take time to visit and explore the new area where you plan to move and then set a budget for your move. Today, we will look at two more tips to consider.

HIRE PROFESSIONAL MOVERS AND PACKERS

A full service moving company such as 3 Guys Moving has professional movers and packers who are able to do all of your packing from start to finish. Hiring movers and packers can take a tremendous amount of stress off of you. The movers and packers at 3 Guys Moving come equipped with moving supplies (i.e., boxes, tape, packing material, etc.) so you literally do not have to worry about anything. Let us take this huge burden off of your shoulders!

MAKE SURE YOUR VEHICLE IS READY TO DRIVE OR TRANSPORT

If you plan to take your vehicle with you, make sure it’s ready to make the move. If you are driving your vehicle to your new location, then consider taking it in for a full maintenance service and inspection prior to your move. If you are transporting your vehicle via a third party, be sure you know exactly what you need to do to prep your vehicle for transport.

Important Questions to Ask Your Movers and Packers

Important Questions to Ask Your Movers and Packers

in Moving & Storage

We are continuing our series of articles covering some questions to ask your packing and moving company as you begin the process of scheduling your move. Our previous article discussed the importance of asking what factors can affect your estimate and inquiring about when the movers and packers will be arriving to your new home with your belongings . Today, we will cover more questions to ask your packing and moving company.

WHAT ITEMS DO I NEED TO MOVE MYSELF?

Be sure to ask your movers and packers about the types of items they are not permitted to transport. This often includes items such as chemicals, pesticides, propane tanks, and anything that is flammable or explosive. You will need to move items that your full service movers cannot transport in their truck.

WHO DO I CONTACT WITH ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS?

Moves are complicated, and you will likely have additional questions for your full service movers. Most moving companies will assign you a point of contact to call or e-mail with questions. If you are unsure of who that is, be sure to ask your movers and packers to provide you with a name and contact info.

Questions to Ask Your Professional Movers and Packers

in Featured, Moving & Storage

If you are planning an upcoming move, hiring a professional moving and storage company can make the process so much easier. Your full service movers will come to your home to ask questions, assess your needs, and schedule your move. Our next series of articles will cover some questions you should be prepared to ask a representative from your moving and storage company.

WHAT FACTORS CAN AFFECT THE ESTIMATE?

When our moving company provides you with an estimate, we offer an accurate written quote based on the information you provide to us at the time. If you expect your situation could change, that can affect the quote. Be sure to let your full service movers know of any possible conditions or aspects that could change. They can then let you know if these factors could affect the quote.

WHEN WILL MY BELONGINGS ARRIVE AT MY NEW HOME?

If you are using local movers, be sure to communicate to them your preferences. If you want to have your belongings arrive at a certain time, let them know so they can factor that time into your schedule. If you’re moving across the country, your movers and packers will be able to give you an estimated date of arrival.

Our next article will cover more questions to ask your professional movers and packers.

When is the Ideal Time to Move?

When is the Ideal Time to Move?

in Featured, Moving & Storage

We are continuing our series of articles covering various aspects to consider when timing your move. Our movers and packers are available year-round, however, there are times that are better than others to conduct a move. Our previous article discussed the best days of the week (Monday – Thursday), the best time of the month (mid-month) and the best time of the year (October – December). Today, we will explore more aspects to consider.

WORK AND SCHOOL

Work and school are major considerations when moving. If you have children in school, you may want to time your move to occur during a long break (i.e., winter break) or at the end of the school year. When your job is a consideration, try to schedule your full service moving company to come during a time when work is slow and easier for you to take time off.

HOLIDAYS

Moving over a holiday weekend has its advantages, especially if kids have off of school and you don’t have to go to work. However, take into account that holiday weekends are times when there is often a lot of traffic on the roads, which could make moving more challenging, especially if you must travel any distance.

Three Guys Moving is a full service moving company with a team of experienced long distance and local movers who are dedicated to delivering outstanding service. Our movers and packers are efficient and know how to get the job done right. If you need piano moving, we can accommodate that as well. In fact, our piano movers are among the best in the business. Not all moving companies are equal. We invite you to experience the Three Guys Moving difference. Give us a call to learn more today.

When Are The Best Times to Hire Local Movers?

in Moving & Storage

If you plan to move now or in the future, one of the things you will need to decide is when to move. Our next series of articles will outline some aspects to consider in regard to scheduling a date for your move. Let’s get started.

BEST TIME OF THE WEEK

In general, the best time of the week to move is on weekdays, Monday-Thursday. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday tend to be extremely busy and if you plan to use a full service moving company, these days can be booked weeks out. Moving during the week is also often less hectic and less expensive than weekend moves.

BEST TIME OF THE MONTH

The middle of the month is often the less busy time to move. If you are not bound by a lease or obligation that requires you to move at the beginning or end of the month, consider scheduling a mid-month move. You will find that moving companies are less busy during mid-month, and thus the cost to hire a full service moving company is often less.

BEST TIME OF THE YEAR

The most ideal time of the year to move in Florida is October – December. Moving companies are often slower during this time. It’s also much cooler, and afternoon thunderstorms are generally not as much of an issue.

Our next article will cover more aspects to consider when deciding when to move.

Preventing Moving Day Mishaps

Preventing Moving Day Mishaps

in Featured, Moving & Storage

We are continuing our series of articles discussing some ways to prevent moving day mishaps as recommended by our full service movers and packers. Our previous articles covered the importance of properly packing boxes so they can be safely moved, organizing your furniture and belongings so your movers and packers know where to set everything in your new home, using your legs to lift heavy items, and keeping foot traffic areas clear from clutter. Today, we will look at more ways you can be proactive at preventing moving day mishaps.

KEEP PETS AND YOUNG CHILDREN OCCUPIED

Pets and children wandering through your home can be a huge hazard and are at risk of getting injured. Have a set room or area where children and pets can go while your full service movers and packers are loading and unloading your belongings. Perhaps even consider asking a friend or neighbor to watch them for a few hours.

PACE YOURSELF

The entire moving process can take a toll both mentally and physically. It’s important to pace yourself and not overdo it. Once your full service movers and packers have relocated your belongings to your new home, strive to take care of unpacking at a pace that is comfortable for you. Overwhelming yourself with tasks will be counterproductive in the long run.

More Tips to Avoid Mishaps on Moving Day

in Moving & Storage

We are continuing our series of articles providing you with tips to help you avoid mishaps on moving day. Our previous article discussed the importance of making sure the boxes you pack are not too heavy to safely handle and determining where you would like for your full service movers and packers to set your furniture and belongings when they bring them into your new home. Today, we will look at more helpful tips to consider.

IF YOU HAVE TO LIFT, USE YOUR LEGS

If you hire full service movers and packers, they will do all the heavy lifting for you. However, if you find that you need to lift and move items at any point during the process, then be sure to lift with your legs and not your back. Lifting heavy items using your back muscles increases the chances of back and neck injuries. When lifting, try to maintain a wide base of support with your feet flat on the ground. Then squat to pick up the box/item and then use your legs to move upward.

KEEP FOOT TRAFFIC AREAS CLEAR

It’s extremely easy for small items, toys, and other obstacles to find their way into high traffic areas during a move. Strive to keep all paths free of people, pets, and clutter so your full service movers and packers can have a clear pathway to work within while moving your belongings.

Tips to Avoid Moving Day Mishaps

in Featured, Moving & Storage

Our full service movers and packers have seen it all, and when it comes to moving day mishaps, many can be avoided. Our next series of articles will cover some tips to help you avoid common mishaps. Let’s get started:

AVOID HEAVY BOXES

If you choose to pack boxes yourself, be careful to not overpack them. If they are too heavy, they will be extremely difficult to handle and move. Professional movers and packers know how to pack boxes in a way that avoids items getting damaged, lessens the chance of them getting dropped, and does not result in them being challenging to handle.

ORGANIZE YOUR FURNITURE AND BELONGINGS

Try to have an idea of where you want your furniture and belongings before your movers and packers arrive at your new home. Having a set plan on where everything needs to go can help ensure your movers and packers understand your needs so they can place your furniture, boxes, etc. in the right areas of your home, avoiding the need for you to have to move it later.

Our next article will discuss more tips to help you avoid moving day mishaps.

Moving Preparation Tips

Moving Preparation Tips

in Featured, Moving & Storage

Our long distance and local movers recommend preparing for your move long before the big day. We have been discussing some moving preparation tips to keep in mind if you are planning an upcoming move.

Our previous articles covered how you should hire and schedule your full service movers and packers sooner than later, the importance of making an inventory of your belongings and getting rid of items you no longer need, making task checklist to ensure nothing is overlooked, packing enough clothes and essential supplies for each person and pet for three days, and making sure your new home is ready to move into. Here are more tips as recommended by our full service movers and packers.

AVOID INJURIES DURING YOUR MOVE

It is important to take care of yourself, your family, and anyone helping you with your move. Even if you hire full service movers and packers, you should still use caution when preparing for them to arrive and before and after your move.  This includes being careful when lifting heavy furniture or boxes, using your legs when lifting instead of your back, keeping hallways and pathways clear of toys, boxes, and clutter, etc. You don’t want either you or someone else to end up at urgent care or the hospital.

LEAVE THE HEAVY STUFF TO THE PROFESSIONALS

It is important to have a plan of where everything is going to go in your new home so that your full service movers and packers can place heavy furniture and boxes in their designated areas. Let them do all the heavy lifting for you! This is especially important in the case of piano moving. Your piano movers will need to know where you want your piano so they can take care of setting it up for you.

3 Guys Moving is a premier packing and moving company with more than 30 years of experience in both corporate and residential moves. Our long distance and local movers, as well as our piano movers, are dedicated to your complete satisfaction. Unfortunately, not all moving companies are equal. You want to hire an experienced packing and moving company that looks out for your best interests. If you are planning an upcoming move, we can help. Give 3 Guys Moving a call today.

Tips to Help You Prepare for Your Upcoming Move

in Featured, Moving & Storage

We are continuing our series of articles on tips to help you prepare for your next move. Our previous articles covered the importance of hiring and scheduling your full service movers and packers once you have settled on a firm date for your move. We also discussed making an inventory of your belongings, donating, selling, or throwing away items you no longer need, and making various checklists to ensure you do not forget anything important. Today, we will look at more preparation tips to consider.

Pack Enough for at Least Three Days

It is important to pack enough for each family member and pet for three days. This includes clothing, medication, toiletries, pillows, sleeping bags, pet beds, pet food and bowls, laptop computers, phone chargers, and other essentials you may need until you get fully moved and somewhat settled.

Make Sure Your New Home is Ready to Move Into

Once you have your move-in date and have scheduled your full service movers and packers to transport your belongings, you will need to take steps to make sure your new home is ready to move into on that designated day. This may include turning on the utilities, cleaning the home, prepping the rooms for boxes, and anything else that may need to be completed for your first few nights to be safe and comfortable.

Our next article will cover more tips as recommended by our long distance and local movers.
