How to Make the Unpacking Process Run Smooth

in Local Moves, Long Distance Moves, Moving & Storage

As a packing and moving company that has been in business for more than three decades, we’ve learned a few things along the way. Most local movers are only concerned about the moment. At 3 Guys Moving, we want to help ensure your move is an all-around positive experience. We are continuing our series on how to make the unpacking process run smooth.  Our previous article covered the importance of being organized while packing, keeping essential items with you and/or within reach, and having a designated space in each room for the movers and packers to stack boxes. Below are three more strategies to consider.

SET-UP ESSENTIAL FURNITURE AND APPLIANCES

Once the movers and packers leave, consider setting up all essential furniture and appliances.  Place sheets on the beds and prepare them for the night.  Unpack kitchen items you may need over the next few days.  If you will need to work from home, set up your desk and computer.  Having items you need ready to use makes the rest of the unpacking process much easier.

ASSIGN TASKS

Assign tasks to family members according to their capabilities.  If Laura is great with electronics, have her connect the television and computers.  If Bill has a knack for organizing, have him determine how to best utilize cabinet space in the kitchen and bathrooms.

TACKLE ONE ROOM AT A TIME

Finally, it is important to remember that unpacking everything can take days or even weeks. Tackle it in stages and strive to work on completing one room before moving on to the next.  With a coordinated effort, you will be unpacked and able to enjoy your home in no time.
