Begin with a room that holds the least emotional attachment, such as the laundry room or a home office. As you work through this space, you’ll develop a system and rhythm that will make it easier to tackle the more sentimental areas, like the living room or bedroom. Plus, the sense of accomplishment you’ll feel after completing one area will give you the motivation and confidence to move on to the next. By breaking down the task into smaller, bite-sized chunks, you’ll be able to tackle the downsizing process with ease and clarity.
